Community Services

The Village of Rycroft strives to maintain a safe, orderly, and comfortable community for the benefit of all residents. To that end, the Village provides and administers a wide array of services. Information on these services is provided in a downloadable/printable PDF format for your convenience. If you have questions, comments, or concerns regarding any services that are not answered by these documents, please contact the Village Office and we will do our best to find the answers for you.

Family and Community Support Services (FCSS)

FCSS provides a variety of home support services, including light housekeeping, menu planning, and companionship to residents of the Village of Rycroft as well as the Town of Spirit River and the Municipal District of Spirit River.  Click on the link above to view all the current information and see more information regarding becoming a volunteer.

As well, FCSS provides public transportation primarily to access medical services in our region. Transportation is also provided for shopping, entertainment, cultural and personal purposes as time permits. The FCSS van goes to Grande Prairie on the second Thursday of each month. Please call (780) 864-3500 to reserve space or for more information.

Public Transportation Fees:

  • Seniors from the Village of Rycroft, MD of Spirit River, Town of Spirit River $20.00
  • Non-seniors from above Municipalities $25.00
  • Other Municipalities $30.00

Residential Garbage and Blue Bag Recycling Collection Services

Residential Garbage and Recyclable Materials Collection Services are provided by GFL Services. Waste Bins are provided by the Village to residential utility account holders. Waste Bins are to be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. Monday mornings ready for pick up, wheels to the curb. Bins are to be removed within 24 hours of the collection of the garbage. 

All eligible Recyclable Materials are to be clean, placed in a clear see-through bag, and placed next to the waste bin for collection (~6 feet for easy pick up) every other Monday of the month.  Dates will be posted on Facebook, the webpage, and in the newspaper.  Recyclable items include: Cardboard, Aluminum and Tin cans, Paper, Hard Plastic Containers, and Deposit items. Non-recyclable items to be placed in your black bin include styrofoam, plastic clamshells, plastic bags, straws and plastic utensils, shredded paper, coffee cups and lids, and glass jars and bottles.

All hazardous waste must be taken to an Enviroservice station.

The Village garbage is taken to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling & Waste Management  in the County of Grande Prairie.  The Landfill is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. It is located at NW 27-72-6-W6M.  From Clairmont, head west on Township Road 724 and north on Range Road 63.  Phone: 780 567 4194

Effective October 1, 2019, all users are responsible for paying their own tipping fees when they haul garbage to the landfill themselves.

The Village offers an annual spring and fall clean-up week where residents can dump their unwanted items for free into temporary bins brought in by the Village.  The program along with bin location will be advertised.  This program is a service provided by the Village in the interest of assisting all residents with keeping their properties clean and free of unwanted debris.

Central Peace Fire and Rescue Services

The Village of Rycroft is a member of the Central Peace Fire and Rescue Services, along with its partners the Town of Spirit River and the MD of Spirit River.  For all details on this organization, visit the title link above.

The Commission recently completed a study through an Alberta Community Partnership grant to determine the best location for a future Fire Hall in the area of the G3 municipalities.  The final report may be viewed Here

South Peace Rural Community Learning     

South Peace Rural Community Learning is a non-profit association that provides non-credit courses, workshops, and learning opportunities to rural adults in the Counties of Grande Prairie, Saddle Hills, Birch Hills, and the M.D. of Spirit River as well as the communities of Spirit River, Rycroft, Beaverlodge, Hythe, Wembley, Sexsmith, Clairmont, La Glace, and others.    Click on the above link to see the wide variety of programming available.
